After reading Lisa Hassan Scott’s various pieces in response to write alm’s November writing promptsย I took a look at the various prompts andย one in particular caught my eye. It was ‘Autumn glow’. I already had the picture painted, so all I needed was the words. I’m actually writing more on this subject – autumn beauty – at the moment but wanted to take part in this sharing of creativity as it looks like good fun.
Thank you, Amanda at Habit of Being, for the write alm prompts.
And this is for all the poet/painters out there ๐
Autumn Haiku
Yellow ochre tinged
with alizarin crimson;
autumn beauty reigns.
what a lovely pairing of words and illustration! and i’ve learned a new word, alizarin ๐
Thanks Amanda for stopping by and taking the time to read my contribution. Alizarin is a great word! It is the name of a pigment of red used in watercolour painting, and very vibrant. I used the alizarin red and yellow ochre for the majority of the leaves in the image. Best wishes x
This is lovely. I like the poem and how it describes your drawing. I only learned the word alizarin several years ago when I was finding about all the different shades of red there are in art mediums!!
Many thanks Patsy for stopping by and taking the time to leave a kind comment. One of my favourite aspects of creating is trying to fit images and words together. For this, the painting came first and then the words. Sometimes it goes the other way round, but however it occurs it’s simply lovely to make it happen ๐ And yes, oh the various shades of red! So many pigments… all simply wonderful.
You’re welcome! I used to write long poetry back in the 70’s and 80’s, and I used to have it all typed out somewhere, but I can’t find it! It’s in a box packed up. I just don’t write poetry any more, but I have been working on my autobiography on another blog at http://spreadingmy2wings.wordpress.com/
it you’re interested! Keep on painting and writing! You’re great at it! ๐
Thank you Patsy for your encouragement, it means a lot to me.
Perhaps you should dig out some of that poetry and have a read? Sure it’ll bring back some memories… ๐ Writing your autobiography is a good idea. Many authors talk about their first novels being quite autobiographical in tone, so this way you can release those important reflections and personal stories and then if you want to continue to write about other things you can do so under the impetus of new inspiration… Just a thought. Thanks for stopping by again ๐
You’re welcome, Marija. I have toyed with the idea of fictionalizing parts of my life for short stories. I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. ๐ I have no idea where my poetry is at the moment.
Good idea about the short stories and I hope you find your poetry. Keep on creating ๐
